LZ254 Front Driving Axle Type B
Luzhong 25hp to 30hp.
6x161mm wheel bolt PCD (diagonally). 16 teeth x 34mm spline. 30mm inner bearing seat. 35mm outer bearing seat. 50mm seal face. Requires pressed in stud M14.
This axle has replaced Type A axle. Type A and Type B are not interchangeable. The difference is the location of the snap rings that retain the large gear wheel. Type A snap rings are located on the wheel side of the large gear, Type B snap rings are located on the engine side of the large gear. Bearings to suit this axle are 6206 (inner) and 6307 (outer) with oil seal 50x72x10.
The axle was adequately designed to do what the Tractor was originally designed for and that was to pull. With the addition of the Front End Loader it became apparent to axle was unable to take the additional stress that was placed on it. Upgraded axles were added throughout the years to cope with this stress.
It was common for the axle to break at the snap ring recess. The snap ring recess was moved to the inner side of the Big Gear wheel which became the Type B axle.
The Big Gear wheel was changed to suit the Type B axle. This became the Type B gear wheel.
The snap rings are no longer encased in the Big Gear so a metal ring housing was fabricated to hold the snap rings in place.
Deciding this wasn't enough, the outer bearing seat was increased from 35mm to 40mm which necessitated this use of a 6208 bearing with a 40mm inside diameter replacing the 6307 35mm inside diameter bearing. Threads were added to the wheel bolts. This is the Type C axle.
Type A and Type B are now obsolete.
To replace a Type A axle you will require a Type C axle, Type C snap rings, a 6208 bearing, a Type B Big Gear Wheel and 6 wheel bolts.
To replace a Type B axle you will require a Type C axle, Type C snap rings, a 6208 bearing and possibly 6 wheel bolts.
The changes in detail
Type A, the original axle.
16 teeth x 33.9mm diameter spline with the snap rings close to the wheel bolts which is on the outer side of the big gear wheel.
Used a 6307 outer bearing that is 35mm inside diameter and a 6206 inner bearing that is 30mm inside diameter.
Snap rings 5mm width. These are type A snap rings.
The outer side of big gear wheel was recessed to take the snap rings, this was type A big gear wheel.
This axle is now obsolete.
Kept the 16 teeth x 35mm spline but moved the snap rings to the inner side of the big gear wheel, close to the inner bearing.
Retained the 6307 outer bearing and the 6206 inner bearing.
The snap rings were reduced to 3mm width and a housing with 40mm inside diameter was added. These are type B snap rings.
The recess on the outer side of the big gear wheel was removed and the inner side of the big gear wheel was machined to accept the new style type B snap rings. This is the type B big gear wheel.
This axle is now obsolete.
Kept the type B 16 teeth x 35mm spline with the snap rings on the inner side of the big gear wheel.
Changed the 6307 bearing to a 6208 bearing with 40mm inside diameter. Retained the 6206 inner bearing.
Threads were added for the wheel bolts replacing the press in type wheel studs.
The snap rings remain at 3mm width however the outside diameter of the snap rings was increased to 46mm. The snap ring housing inside diameter was also increased to suit. These are type C snap rings.
Kept type B big gear wheel.
Changed to 19 teeth x 39.8mm spline with the snap rings on the inner side of the big gear wheel.
Kept the 6208 bearing with 40mm inside diameter. Retained the 6206 inner bearing.
The snap rings changed to 54mm diameter and a washer was added. These are type D snap rings.
Changed to type D big gear wheel with 19 splines.
